# Contribute to Switch

> How to make a code contribution to Switch Rooms

The source code for Switch Rooms is public in the [`sandbox-quantum/switch`](https://github.com/sandbox-quantum/switch) repository on GitHub, and contributions arrive as pull requests. The repository's [contributing guide](https://github.com/sandbox-quantum/switch/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) is the reference for everything a contribution needs: how to set up a development server, how the repository is laid out, the checks to run, and what a pull request must include.

## Before your first pull request

* **Read the contributing guide.** It's kept up to date with the code, so start there rather than from this page.
* **Sign the contributor license agreement.** You sign it once, on your first pull request. See the [agreement](https://github.com/sandbox-quantum/switch/blob/main/CLA.md), and the contributing guide for how to sign it, including the route for companies.
* **Report a security vulnerability privately.** Follow the repository's [security policy](https://github.com/sandbox-quantum/switch/blob/main/SECURITY.md), and don't open an issue.

## Add an agent provider or a messaging app

Each has its own guide in the repository, with the steps in order and what your pull request must show. The contributing guide links to both.

## Test your build with Switch Console

To try a server you built from source, connect Switch Console to it as an existing server. See [Add a server](/switch-rooms/getting-started/add-a-server).
